Weight Loss & Metabolism

With our pants fitting a little snug, it’s safe to say many of us are feeling the weight of the CoVID 15lbs.

However, in the game of weight loss we often focus on cutting calories, but did you know the higher your metabolism, the more calories you burn and the easier it is to maintain your weight or get rid of unwanted body fat.

Now do I have your attention??

Protein rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, nuts and seeds, could help increase your metabolism for a few hours, by requiring more energy to digest them, this also keeps you fuller, thus preventing overeating.

In addition protein assists the body in the creation and maintenance of lean muscle tissue. Studies have shown that muscle burns roughly 50 times more than fat. Which is all the more reason to incorporate daily resistance exercises in your weight loss plan.

Foods rich in iron, zinc and selenium like meat, seafood, legumes, nuts and seeds promote the proper function of your thyroid, which helps maintain a healthy metabolism.

Then capsaicin, a compound found in chili peppers, may help slightly increase metabolism and fat oxidation. Recently, a review of 20 research studies reports that capsaicin can help your body burn around 50 extra calories per day and may even have appetite-reducing properties.

Then lets not forget water. Drinking enough water is a great way to stay hydrated and may boost metabolism by 24-30%.

While certain foods can increase your metabolic rate, we must remember that there are many important parts to a healthy metabolism such as exercise, sleep and stress support.

Just remember its all fun and games until your metabolism slows down.
